What is 211?

211 is a free, confidential, 24-hour/7 day a week (365 days a year) information and referral helpline connecting individuals and families in need with access to available health and human services.  You can also text 898-211 from 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday through Friday. It's a one-stop-shop for help!

DeKalb County residents can connect to a wide range of services by phone or text, and an expert navigator will guide them to the help they need, regardless of the time of day, the language they speak, or where they live.

211 provides access to critical services:

  • Shelter and affordable housing options

  • Legal-consumer and public safety

  • Utility assistance

  • Supplemental food programs

  • Addiction support and rehabilitation

  • Crisis counseling

  • Employment and education support

  • Health care and mental health

  • Financial support

  • Transportation

  • Specialized programs and services driven by 211...and much more!

211 is transforming the way Kishwaukee United Way helps thousands of our residents connect with essential health and human services to improve and save lives.

211 is 3 numbers away
The 2-1-1 network in the United States responds to more than 21 million requests for help every year. Since its launch in 2017, DeKalb County’s 2-1-1 line has answered over 2,000 calls. These callers were connected to vital resources. The most frequent requests continue to be rental assistance, food pantries, utility assistance, and transportation.
